The Gate

The Gate within Hopreach Grove, the dimensional threshold whose discovery led to the founding of the Wizards’ Order

Overview

The Gate is the defining artifact of the Wizards’ Order and the single most important discovery in the history of Fermenta. Long before the Order formally existed, the Gate appeared deep within Hopreach Grove following a violent arcane blast that permanently altered the surrounding land.

Rather than destroy what stood near it, the Gate changed it. Hop growth intensified. Citrus-bearing flora emerged in unusual abundance. Ingredients exposed to its presence began behaving differently — brighter aromas, sharper expression, and unfamiliar reactions during fermentation and refinement.

At its center rests an unknown crest, later adopted as the symbol of the Wizards’ Order itself.

Though commonly referred to simply as “The Gate,” records within the Order describe it less as a doorway and more as a threshold — a structure capable of connecting Fermenta to distant realms beyond known understanding.

Origin

The true origin of the Gate remains unknown.

The earliest surviving records come from the Brewmage himself, who encountered the structure while traveling through Hopreach Grove during the early study of magical ingredients and fermentation. Unlike others who feared the phenomenon, the Brewmage began documenting its effects directly.
